Municipal Capacity for Agri-food Systems Planning in Ontario

Regan's research is co-advised by Dr. Silvia Sarapura and Dr. Wayne Caldwell, and looks to understand the relationship between municipal capacity and local and regional agri-food systems in Ontario. Municipal governments play a critical role in supporting local and regional agri-food systems that are environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and supportive of local communities and context. However, little is known about the capacity of municipal governments to support and respond to agri-food systems or how municipal capacity impacts agri-food systems actors, interactions, and functions. Regan's research looks to address these gaps. While this research project is based in Ontario, the outcomes have national and global impacts, not only by improving municipal government support for local and regional agri-food systems in Ontario, but also in providing a framework for similar work in other contexts.
